SGF COMMENDS CHINESE GOVERNMENT FOR SUPPORT TO NIGERIA
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr. Babachir David Lawal, has commended the Government of the People’s Republic of China for the support offered Nigeria so far, through the consummation and implementation of several projects across the various sectors of the national economy. He made the remarks today in his office, when he received the Chinese Charge d’Affairs in Nigeria, Mr. Quin Jian. According to the SGF, Nigeria appreciates immensely, the good relations between the two countries, but noted that the need for adequate transfer of technology is critical. Precisely, he urged the Chinese authorities to ensure that as the projects are completed, nigerians should be properly trained to take-over and manage them. The SGF also mentioned that spare parts must be available at all times so that the maintenance of the facilities can be sustained with ease. Engineer Lawal is convinced that Chinese products are indeed, of the highest quality when measured against global standards and emphasized that Chinese sub-standard goods should not be imported to Nigeria.

Mr. Jian in his comments explained that China considers Nigeria to be its most strategic partner in Africa, and that the Nigeria/China relationship that has existed for over 45 years, has become closer in the last 10 years. He stressed that Nigeria, with the largest population in Africa, and being the largest economy in the continent, has the potential to become a world power. He said China appreciates the focus of the present administration in the areas of improving security, fighting corruption and reviving the economy and assured that China will support the government of Nigeria to achieve its objectives.
