The Main functions of the Division are:-
- Participate in Nigeria-Niger Joint Commission Meetings and served as secretariat to NNJC Local Bilateral Committees Meetings of the Seven Frontline States with Niger Republic.
- Participate in other joint Commission Meetings having bilateral ties/relations with Nigeria, such as Nigeria and Cameroon, Chad, Benin, Equatorial Guinea e.t.c.
- Liaise and maintain an effective relationship with relevant Federal Ministries and Extra-Ministerial Departments (MDA's) whose functions affect the Nigeria Public politically such as the National Boundary Commission, National Commission for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, INEC.
- Liaise with the National Assembly and other Government Agencies on political issues affecting the Nigeria public.
- Participate in the implementation of Joint Commission Project/Activities with neighboring countries.
- Prepare and Collate the Annual Budget for the Political Affairs Office.
- Monitor National Political events that affect the public in Nigeria in collaboration with other relevant Government Agencies.
- Provides Secretariat Service for all SGF meetings on Political Matters.
